Architecture Minutes: Ayamonte Maritime Authority

In this episode of STRUGAL’s “Minuto de Arquitectura,” we visit the Maritime Captaincy Building at the Ayamonte Marina in Huelva, a project developed by Gabriel Verd Arquitectura and BURÓ 4.

During the interview, we spoke with Gabriel Verd about the key architectural and technical decisions that shaped the building, as well as an approach to sustainability that goes beyond energy efficiency and also takes into account maintenance, economic viability, user comfort, and the building’s integration into its surroundings.

Visually, the project stands out for its angular geometry and a material palette dominated by concrete, with references to the ancient defensive structures along the coast. The L-shaped floor plan creates a porticoed plaza connected to the harbor, while the upper terrace offers views of Ayamonte’s historic district and Portugal.

To address the window and door systems and the organization of the interior spaces, the project incorporates various STRUGAL systems, selected to meet both the building’s unique geometric characteristics and its functional requirements.
